NEWS: Conservative talk host Ira Hansen quits KKFT Talk Radio FM 99.1 to focus on primary business: Ira Hansen and Sons Plumbing.
After a long time away from the airwaves, popular conservative talk host, Ira Hansen, returned to the airways at KKFT FM Radio 99.1 in Carson City. Ira was welcomed back to the airways by a number of his loyal listeners in late December 2007. Ira's show could be heard from 3:00 to 6:00 PM weekdays. Previously, Ira had hosted a weekend show at Reno station KKOH. Ira's return to the airways was credited with a move in listenership from the competing KKOH afternoon talk show hosted by Bill Manders to the Ira Hansen Show.
Unfortunately, Ira decided after only 8 months, that he needed to focus on his primary business. Ira's last show was on August 15, 2008. Beginning August 18, station manager Jerry Evans has been playing re-runs of the Lars Larson show. Jerry said that he has tried to get the Michael Savage show to air during this timeframe, but has not been successful. This is probably due to the fact that competing radio station KKOH hosts Michael Savage, albeit delayed by 3 hours. The delayed broadcast makes it impossible for radio listeners to participate with phone calls to the host. As a result, many avid Savage listeners listen to Michael over the internet.
Jerry Evans is looking into other possible replacements for the now open timeslot. Suggestions have been made for Jerry to contact popular radio talk host Barbara Simpson of KSFO on her availability and willingness to host this timeslot.
Although KKFT is a Carson City radio station, Ira broadcast originated in Sparks, NV.
